Literacy/Reading Tutor | Fall25 Work Study

If you answered yes to either question, apply for the position of a Literacy/Reading Tutor.

This off-campus work-study position places you in an important role within children's lives. You do not need to be perfect at reading, but you need to be passionate about working with youth. Tutors will  work off-campus at a specific elementary or middle school in San Marcos. You will work with students who need extra support in school. There are many different reasons why students could need extra help. For example, they could be learning English as a second language, struggling to keep up with grade-level demands, or striving to meet testing goals. Not only will you be able to contribute to the life of child, you will also help to ease the demands placed on classroom teachers. 

Open to all majors.

  • Tutors must have a Federal work-study award.
  • Tutors will work 10-20 hours a week depending on your class schedule and work-study allotment.
  • Tutors must be available to work in the San Marcos schools between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm M-F and must maintain a consistent work schedule.
  • Tutors starting pay is $15.00/hr. Pay rate is determined by work-study allotment.
  • Tutors will be placed at schools in San Marcos and must have reliable transportation.
  • Tutors must pass a San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District background check.
  • Direct Supervisor will be determined at SMCISD school site once location assignment is made.
  • Employees will be evaluated based on attendance, adherence to school policies, and effectiveness on the job.
