Fall 2025 Work-Study | Spring Lake Education Community Outreach and Education Assistant
The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University is dedicated to inspiring research, leadership and innovation that ensures clean, abundant water for the environment and all humanity. The Meadows Center fulfills its mission by integrating activities across four pillars of action in powerful ways. Our work in each of these pillars begins at Spring Lake – one of the largest artesian springs in the world – and ripples outward across Texas and beyond.
The Meadows Center is seeking a student worker to become the Community Outreach and Education Assistant to help coordinate our outreach events on and off-site as well as creation of programming. This position will have a key role in the planning of the Earth Day San Marcos Festival, which will be held at the Meadows Center in April 19, 2026.
Qualifications
Applicants must have work-study. Applicants must have superior interpersonal skills including dependability, responsibility, motivation, time management, organization, excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow directions. Experience in an office setting is expected, while a general understanding of the TEKS and the foundations of education in the state of Texas is preferred.
General Description
Responsible for providing assistance to the Education Manager and Deputy Director of the Spring Lake Education Programs with the community outreach events that the center has planned. This position will work in the Education Office and will help in the planning, scheduling, and staffing of the events.
Schedule
Applicants must be available during the times of 8:00am -5:00pm Mon – Fri with a minimum of 4-hour blocks per scheduled shift. Morning or afternoon shifts are preferred. Most outreach events are on the weekends or after hours. The employee will be expected to work most of the scheduled outreach events.
Job Requirements
- Must be able to work four shifts, with a minimum of three weekdays
- Must have experience working in an office setting
- Must have great customer service skills, self-motivated, and a willingness to learn
- Must be proficient in Word and Excel. Experience within Outlook is recommended.
- Texas State Parking Pass is required if you plan to drive to work
- Must have a reliable method of getting to work and outreach events that are located off-site
Job Duties
- Assist with creation of education curriculum for Spring Lake Programs and outreach events
- Developing newsletters, website updates, and informational email blasts
- Complete grant deliverables associated with funding for different events
- Compiling and editing educational and outreach materials
- Communicating with the public through our Spring Lake Education email account and over the phone
- Booking/Creating confirmation paperwork for events and vendors for outreach events
- Keeping careful record on our shared calendars of outreach events and who has booked with us
- Sending out reminder calls and emails for groups that are helping or hosting an event with our program
- Creating invoices for all outreach and special events (including refunds, billing, and payment receipts)
- Tracking of all invoicing related to outreach and special events
- Assisting with front desk duties when needed: answering phone calls and assisting with events in our Conference Room
- Meaningfully contribute to completion of projects through independent work.
- Learn about Spring Lake and The Meadows Center’s educational goals.
- All other duties as assigned

Employee Evaluation Process
Employees will be evaluated on their work output and ethic. Employees will be required to attend all scheduled shifts unless prior communication has been made with their direct supervisor. All employees are required to follow university policy and procedures.
Pay Rate Determination
This pay rate of this position begins at $11. Experience and amount awarded through work study may result in a higher rate if deemed appropriate by the Spring Lake Management.
Direct Supervisor
This position is directly supervised by the Education Manager of the Spring Lake Education Program and the Deputy Director of Spring Lake Education.
