The culture and being at such a large financial institution.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed the work I did, but I just didn't have that much of it.

Global Finance and Business Management Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed getting to hear from top-level executives at the company through skype sessions. I also liked their innovation week.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more volunteering opportunities the interns had with one another.

Advice

I would definitely recommend taking an Excel class prior to this internship. The more familiarity one has with the software, the better.

Advice

Talk to as many people as possible during your internship. If you do not plan on going back, it is helpful to just learn from as many people as possible. If you do want to return to your job, these early conversations will serve as the building blocks of relationships you have with people within your company. There are so many positive things that can come out of just sitting down to talk with people for a couple of minutes, whether that be learning new things, building relationships that have long-term impacts, or just having an interesting conversation. On the flip side, there is very little downside. My biggest piece of advice is just to meet and talk to as many people as possible within your company.

What I liked

Great company with a lot of access to senior leaders. A lot of opportunities to learn about all areas of the bank. Good training that really helped me learn more about what a full-time role would look like. Company culture was also great--there is definitely an atmosphere of helping others succeed.

What I wish was different

More live deals.

Advice

Go in and work hard. Don't be entitled and don't be lazy.

Technology Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I had a hard but interesting project, great teammates, and a great boss. Overall, the working environment is quite good.

What I wish was different

The bureaucracy of the company and struggle to gain access to tools and people can be very frustrating. Nothing gets done quickly.

Advice

If you're interested in this position, definitely attend Code for Good. It's a fantastic event and the easiest way by far to get an offer. If you do attend Code for Good, take it seriously; there's a very real chance that you walk away with an offer. During the internship, learn everything you can about what to expect from a full-time TAP position. The internship program can be quite enjoyable, but continuing with TAP after graduation may not be the best option.

Technology Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I really liked the people that I worked with this past summer. The projects I was apart of grew my technical skills and allowed me to put my leadership knowledge to good use. It's nice to work with people that make you grow and learn over such a short time period.

What I wish was different

I wish that the program had been up front with how they were recruiting for full time. They just moved to a different type of engineering program and it doesn't interest me long term.

Advice

While I enjoyed my time at Chase, there was a big lack of communication between managers and management, as well as a lot of bureaucracy to overcome when it came to projects. This is disappointing to see with such a large company and I would warn future students to keep this in mind if they decide to join Chase.

Global Finance and Business Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I can honestly say I loved my experience. Everyone at J.P Morgan was super welcoming, since I was not from there my boss went out of his way to make sure I felt comfortable in Columbus. They also set us up with a buddy, who had been an intern. The buddy program was a great way to talk about anything you didn't want to go to your manager with.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have helped me find housing, I had to research the area and find something on my own.

Advice

Don't be afraid to intern out of state, it's a great experience and even if you don't like the area it's only a couple weeks out of your life.

Investment Banking Credit Risk Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The culture and support at J.P. Morgan is something that is not necessarily present at all times in large financial institutions. However, having spent two summers at the firm, it became clear to me how much teams valued each others opinions and spent time giving help. Additionally, J.P. Morgan is known across the street for having one of the best training programs which I got a shortened version of for the summer and am looking forward to full version next summer.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out to anyone in the firm just by emailing them because everyone is so willing to meet and share their experiences and it is a great way to expand your network.

Global Finance and Business Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Newark, DE

What I liked

I liked that I was given assignments right away from my team. I learned a lot through using Excel, especially lookups and pivot tables. I was able to enhance my analytical and communication skills. The culture in Delaware is relaxed, so people are open for coffee chats and networking.

What I wish was different

I wish that the recruiting team was more transparent about the program because there is nothing global about this program and the work is more corporate accounting related. Also, everyone had different experiences based on their managers so while I had work, some of my friends were not doing work that's done by full-time analysts.

Advice

Learn as much as you can about what you do and how it fits into the bigger picture of the company.
