So this summer was dedicated to me purchasing a DLSR camera to pursue my dreams and help further my career as a photographer/videographer. Working at two Dollar Generals in one day sometimes, I worked nearly everyday this summer to save up for a camera that was priced at $700. One piece of advice I would share about my experience is that if you have a goal, do whatever it takes to reach it. When you really love something or have a passion to do it, nothing is impossible to reach. It literally took me 2 months to save enough money to buy the camera on top of helping out my family around the same. It seemed like forever but I didn’t give up. Just keep your head high & reach for what you want !

I like that I was able to pick up shifts at a store in the town I live in while being scheduled at the one store.

I wish the store layout was different so stocking the shelves would not have to stop when a customer was browsing the aisle I was working in.

I wish that my classes would allow me to have more availability to work.

I would share that the people are great and if you get to interact with them and open up you will find that work isn't much work.

I wished the store could have been a little bit more organized with how they do things in the store itself.

Advice

Working in retail isn't easy since you have to be able to assist customers who can be hostile. Just remember to stay calm and have a solution prepared

My boss was nice and he kept me working hard throwing stock and tending to people

I wish i had other options other than being a cashier, i had no other choice this summer. All other places, all 20 or some places in Brooklyn would not hire me because i was in school.
